That Baking Smell!

By Shannon Bliss Illustrated by Audrey Sauble

In That Baking Smell! we saw several examples of matter:

  • Smelling cinnamon- a bit of the cinnamon had to be in a gas state to smell

  • Solid coconut oil melts

  • Liquid ingredients are poured into solid ingredients

What’s the matter?

Matter comes in 3 states (solid, liquid & gas), it makes up everything around us.

  • solid keeps it shape, like pouring oats onto a pan

  • liquid takes the shape of its container, like filling a cup with honey

  • gas fills its container, like a smell filling a room

  • Yes!

Solids can melt to become liquids

Liquids can freeze to become solids

Gases can condense to be liquids

Liquids can vaporize to become gases
